A Saudi government research centre, established by a Council of Ministers resolution in 2019 to carry out applied research in sustainable agriculture. It is headquartered at Riyadh Techno Valley on the King Saud University campus and runs regional branches, Jazan among them.
Its work centres on food security, sustainable and resilient farming systems, and adapting agriculture to climate change: raising crop yield per unit of area, and using irrigation water more efficiently to stop the drain on the Kingdom’s fresh water resources. The research programmes cover protected agriculture and greenhouse technology, soilless and vertical farming, plant nutrition and biostimulants, integrated pest management and biological control, biofertilisers and organic waste management.
Beyond research it serves farmers and the private sector directly, with technical consultations, field visits to farms, evaluation of new agricultural technologies and products, advisory support for pioneering farmers, and cooperative training.
